Self Workout in the Park

Yesterday was SO much fun! I’m so glad I was able to attend Self Workout in the Park in Chicago. Let’s get right down to business recapping the day!

I woke up around 7:30 to get ready before heading out. Ryan was riding with me since one of our friend’s was moving to a new apartment in Chicago the same day. He helped move while I got my workout on.

I knew I needed a breakfast that would last a while since I wasn’t quite sure when I would eat lunch. Oatmeal always lasts me a while so I stuck with that.

Oatmeal with flax seed, blueberries, peanut butter, banana and cinnamon. Mmm!

I read The Help on the way down while chatting with Ryan. I’m already about half way through…I seem to read faster while using the iPad, or maybe I’m just imagining things. Probably imagining things.

Ryan dropped me off at Grant Park and there were already a ton of women there. Thankfully, the line moved quickly so it didn’t take long to get to the entrance.

My friend, Jenny, I was meeting there was running a little late so I stayed in the main workout area for the stretch session. She arrived towards the end of the stretch…just in time for the hardcore workout sessions to start!

There were 3 different sections of the park, the main stage area, the Quiet Zone and the Reebok Crossfit area. The Quiet Zone and the Reebok Crossfit area only allowed each individual to attend one session. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize you had to get a special band (I thought you just had to stand in line) so we didn’t get to try any of those classes. I was disappointed; I wanted to try the Crossfit area!

Anyways, we stayed in the Main Stage area for the rest of the classes. The sessions we attended were (and by the way, these are the names that were given to the workouts, not my names for them…): Sexy Stretch, Rock Bottom (exclusive booty workin’ track), Ab Attack, Sucker Punch (kickboxing-esqe), Fly Girls (90′s hits, baby!) and Beach Body.

All of the sessions were 20 minutes, but man they had us working hard! Rock Bottom and Beach Body were definitely the hardest. They also had a ton of other sponsors handing out free samples and such.

$20 for all of this PLUS a free subscription to Self magazine? I’d call that a steal! It was a ton of fun and I would definitely go again next year.

Til next time!

Question: Have you ever attended a workout event like this? This was my first one!
